The Supervisory Authority for Insurance and Social Welfare (ACAPS) took part in the 43rd Conference and General Assembly of the African Insurance Organization (AIO), organized in Marrakech from 8 to 11 May 2016, jointly by the Moroccan Federation of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies (FMSAR) and the Central Reinsurance Company.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Hassan BOUBRIK, President of ACAPS, highlighted the importance of the role played by the AIO, since its creation, on the development of a healthy African Insurance industry with the best standards. Mr. BOUBRIK also highlighted the progress made by Africa in a substantial way in many areas. He then reviewed the strengths and weaknesses of the African insurance market, arguing for the emergence of stronger and more independent oversight.
As a reminder, AIO is a non-governmental organization created in 1972 with more than 356 members, representing 47 countries on the African continent and 14 international associate members. Choosing Morocco for its annual conference is recognition of the place occupied by the Moroccan sector of insurance and reinsurance at the continental level and the influence of many national actors beyond the borders of the Kingdom.
