A delegation from The Supervisory Authority of Insurance and Social Welfare took part in the annual conference of the IAIS, the International Association of Insurance Supervisors.

Created in 1994, this association brings together the regulatory and supervisory authorities of insurance companies from 200 jurisdictions in 140 countries.

Gathering the control and regulatory authorities every year, the annual conference for 2016, held in Asunción (Paraguay), on 10-11 November, dealt with the following topics:

  • IAIS Major Projects Update and Dialogue, including ComFrame / ICPs, ICS, G-SIIs, Assessments and Resolution
  • Challenges in Implementing Risk-based Supervision and the Role of Proportionality
  • Financial Stability and Policyholder Protection
  • Technological Innovation: Insurance Supervision and the Business of Insurance
  • Leveraging Insurance for Sustainable Growth and Development As a reminder, the mission of the IAIS is to:
  • Promote exchanges of information between controllers on regulations, markets and companies;
  • Define common control principles and develop reference rules for their generalization;
  • Assist controllers in emerging countries to put in place adequate regulation and effective supervision. As a non-governmental association, the IAIS does not have the power to enact rules to which States should comply;
  • Contribute to the stability of the financial markets.
